Sanctuary Computer is hiring a contract-based Senior Shopify Developer to join our Design and Development Team in New York City. You’ll build pixel-perfect storefronts, from custom Liquid themes to headless Hydrogen/Next.js implementations, collaborating with designers and engineers.

You’ll lead performance optimizations, integrate with headless CMSs, and implement accessible interfaces while shaping scalable component libraries and documentation.

Qualifications

• 8+ years writing highly performant frontend code with an obsession for Lighthouse scores and Core Web Vitals.
• Deep Shopify Ecosystem Mastery: custom Shopify themes and headless storefronts via Storefront API.
• Modern Frontend Tech: TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, CSS Modules, and animation libraries.
• Headless CMS & Integrations with Sanity, Contentful, Prismic, and third‑party services like Klaviyo/Stripe.
• Platform & Hosting knowledge of Vercel, Netlify, and Shopify Oxygen.
• Architecture & State Management with Zustand/Redux/Pinia and API patterns.
• Quality & Accessibility: WCAG, SEO, Jest/Playwright/Cypress tests.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Technical Leads and Designers to meet client e‑commerce needs.
• Build and maintain storefronts using Liquid (Online Store 2.0) and headless architectures (Shopify Storefront API, GraphQL) with Hydrogen/Remix or Next.js.
• Implement responsive, accessible interfaces based on design specs with attention to interaction details.
• Integrate storefronts with headless CMS platforms, payment gateways, subscriptions, search, and third‑party APIs.
• Optimize e‑commerce performance focusing on Core Web Vitals, asset delivery, and runtime efficiency.
• Architect scalable component libraries and design systems for commercial platforms.
• Write clear documentation for store management, custom app integrations, and code maintenance.
• Participate in Sprint Planning, daily standups, code reviews, and retrospectives.
