Job summary

Cayuga County Office for the Aging is seeking an Aging Services Specialist to coordinate and enhance programs for older residents. You will work under the Director, developing services and ensuring effective operation of aging initiatives.

You will liaise with agencies, provide technical assistance, and supervise staff and volunteers while maintaining records and ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in social or behavioral sciences, public health, gerontology, community development or related field with 1 year of related experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in same fields with 2 years of related experience.
• Equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated above.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, developing and coordinating programs and services for the aging.
• Assist in implementation and operation of a service component for older persons.
• Provide technical assistance to municipal and community agencies concerned with aging programs.
• Work with older persons or their delegates to identify useful agencies and individuals.
• Develop liaison with private, public and voluntary aging agencies.
• Attend meetings and speak to groups on aging issues.
• Supervise activities of staff and volunteers.
• Interpret state and federal policies and formulate office procedures.
• Maintain detailed program records and reports.
• Perform information and referral functions and maintain current listings.
• Assist in staff training and developing computer applications for agency needs.
