Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Senior ServiceNow Engineer to design, develop, and support highly customized applications on the ServiceNow platform. This hands-on role requires strong technical judgment, independent problem-solving, and ownership of outcomes in a fully remote environment.

You will work with proprietary apps, custom data models, and extensive Service Portal customization, delivering working solutions from investigation to delivery and mentoring junior developers along the way.

Qualifications

Education/experience: BS/BA with 8+ years, MS/MA with 6+ years, or PhD with 3+ years.
Active Secret Clearance required.
Experience developing and supporting custom ServiceNow applications.
Hands-on Service Portal customization, including widget development and troubleshooting.
Ability to understand a proprietary app by examining code, data model and processes.
Independently translate business needs into technical solutions.
Ability to ask targeted questions to resolve ambiguous requirements.
Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
Provide technical guidance to junior developers.
Experience with REST/SOAP APIs and external integrations.
Experience writing, testing, and debugging ServiceNow scripts.
Developing custom UI components (UI Pages, UI Actions, Service Portal).

Responsibilities

Design and develop custom ServiceNow apps using App Engine Studio or scoped apps.
Build/ enhance modules, data models, platform extensions, and Service Portal widgets.
Customize and extend existing ServiceNow apps to meet customer needs.
Develop workflows, automation, and integrations via REST/SOAP and third-party platforms.
Write, test, and debug Business Rules, Script Includes, Client Scripts, UI Policies, Flows, and Fix Scripts.
Develop custom UI components including UI Pages, UI Actions, and Service Portal elements.
Gather/ analyze requirements with stakeholders and translate into technical solutions.
Investigate unfamiliar behavior by tracing code/configs/data relationships.
Evaluate options and recommend scalable, maintainable solutions aligned with best practices.
Own assigned work from investigation through delivery; mentor juniors.
Collaborate in an Agile/DevSecOps environment with stakeholders and teammates.
Maintain knowledge of CMDB, tables, and relationships; configure MID Servers.
Implement role-based access controls and security configurations; follow FedRAMP/DoD/STIG requirements.
Set up ServiceNow instances for new apps or migrations; research setup needs as required.
