Job summary

Vector Security in Richmond, VA is seeking a Senior Service Technician to diagnose, repair, program, and upgrade residential security systems. You’ll mentor junior technicians, handle complex troubleshooting, and ensure high-quality service for both legacy and new installations.

You’ll work on hardwired and wireless systems, with a focus on network issues and basic system integrations, while communicating effectively with customers.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent – required.
  • 3–5 years of industry experience – preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of life safety and home automation equipment experience – preferred.
  • State Licensing – required.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
  • ESA Certified Alarm Technician Level 2 or equivalent – preferred.
  • Strong communication and professional customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with legacy systems and basic network troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Service residential security systems (hardwired and wireless) with minimal supervision.
  • Troubleshoot complex systems and network issues; handle basic integrations.
  • Run and fish wires in a concealed manner.
  • Set up and explain system functionality to customers.
  • Keep work sites clean and organized for safety.
  • Mentor junior technicians and share best practices.
  • Review work of Entry Level technicians and provide training on complex systems.

Summary

As a Senior Service Technician, you will diagnose, repair, program, and upgrade residential security systems, with a strong focus on troubleshooting and servicing legacy and antique systems. This role requires advanced expertise in evaluating system malfunctions, supporting both hardwired and wireless security solutions, and resolving complex technical issues, including network‑related problems and basic system integrations. The ideal candidate has deep hands‑on experience with legacy security platforms, a working knowledge of video surveillance systems, and strong communication skills. In addition to providing technical leadership, the Senior Service Technician mentors junior technicians, shares technical knowledge and best practices, and helps enhance the overall capabilities of the branch and service team.

What You’ll Do
  • Service residential systems:
    • Complete service of various types of security systems, including hardwired and wireless systems, with minimal supervision.
    • Troubleshoot complex systems and network issues; work with basic integration.
    • Run and fish wires in a concealed manner.
    • Set up and communicate system functionality to customers and answer questions.
    • Keep job site clean and organized so work can be performed safely.
    • Employ basic logic skills to move an issue to resolution.
  • Train and mentor technicians:
    • Review the work of Entry Level and Level 1 technicians on a shared job site and provide training to correct any errors.
    • Train and mentor Entry Level and Level 1 technicians on package and/or less complex systems.
What You’ll Need
  • Education & Experience:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent – required.
    • 3–5 years of industry experience – preferred.
    • Minimum 2 years of life safety and home automation equipment experience – preferred.
  • Field Service Operations: Minimum 2 years responding to scheduled service calls and emergency dispatches, carrying out low‑voltage wiring repairs and hardware replacements.
  • Certification/License:
    • State Licensing – required.
    • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
    • ESA Certified Alarm Technician Level 2 or equivalent – preferred.
  • Communication: Must be able to effectively communicate with various individuals professionally to provide superior customer service.
  • Technical: Must be able to understand technical functionality of various systems learned online and/or via hands‑on instruction; demonstrate proficiency in hardware and panel writing of required manufacturers; hands‑on experience with legacy systems, specific expertise in troubleshooting and programming (e.g., GE and Concord (Interlogix) panels).
