Job summary

Axon Enterprise is seeking a Principal Security Operations Engineer to design and scale secure, developer-friendly infrastructure across Kubernetes, AWS, and Azure. You will automate security controls in CI/CD pipelines, improve tooling, and lead incident responses while partnering with SRE and platform teams to embed security by design.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in security engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure, SRE, or related roles.
• Expert-level Kubernetes experience with cluster architecture, provisioning, upgrades, networking, RBAC, policy enforcement, and production operations at scale.
• Strong AWS and/or Azure experience designing, provisioning, securing, and operating highly available cloud infrastructure using IaC.
• Strong software engineering and automation skills (Go, Python or similar), building production-grade internal platforms and tooling.
• Extensive experience designing and improving CI/CD and deployment architectures for secure, automated, scalable delivery.
• Deep understanding of container security, registries (ECR/ACR), image lifecycle, vulnerability scanning, and access controls.
• Cloud-native security architecture knowledge: network security, secrets management, workload identity, policy enforcement, runtime protection.
• Experience implementing security guardrails and automated controls to improve security with minimal developer friction.
• Infrastructure-as-code expertise with Terraform, Helm, GitOps, or similar tooling.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex distributed systems and lead security/incidents.
• Security observability across cloud and Kubernetes: logging, metrics, detection, alerting.

Responsibilities

• Lead review, design, and continuous improvement of Axon’s Kubernetes platforms with platform teams to strengthen architecture, security, resilience, and operations.
• Refactor how security services are built, deployed, and operated; establish automated security controls across CI/CD pipelines.
• Architect, provision, and secure AWS and Azure infrastructure using IaC and cloud-native practices.
• Partner with developers, SRE, and platform engineering to embed security by design into infrastructure and workflows.
• Provide technical leadership during complex security and infrastructure incidents with durable remediation.
• Advance security observability with telemetry, logging, metrics, detection, and actionable alerts.
• Build and improve internal security tooling, runbooks, and self-service capabilities to reduce toil.
• Establish standards for operating security platforms at scale; mentor engineers.
• Apply PKI and certificate management expertise to strengthen security architecture.
