MongoDB is seeking a Principal Security Engineer to join its Global Security Organization. The role is a senior, hands-on IC capable of addressing advanced security and architectural challenges across product, infrastructure, and risk.

Based in NYC or remotely within North America, the role centers on mentoring senior engineers, shaping security strategy, and driving risk-informed decisions across engineering and business teams.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in security engineering or related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS, Information Security, or related field.
• Deep expertise in security across compute, network, and storage.
• Proven ability to form independent technical positions.
• Experience influencing without formal authority across cross-functional partners.
• Comfort owning ambiguous, deadline-driven work such as M&A diligence.
• Mentoring and connecting other senior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Maintain depth in security and MongoDB product architecture across compute, network, and storage.
• Form independent, well-reasoned opinions on security and architecture decisions and express them.
• Push teams to move faster when not increasing risk; slow down when required by risk considerations.
• Debate, align, and commit on the right course of action.
• Seed and grow a community of senior ICs in security operations and product security.
• Lead cross-functional engagements such as M&A security due diligence and partner risk assessments.
• Close knowledge gaps and stay accountable for outcomes.
