Job summary

Akamai Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to join our Information Security Team in Hartford, CT.

You will work directly with the Director of Security Engineering to assess risks, guide security controls, and secure both Akamai’s and customers’ environments. You will partner with IT and engineering to design and deploy security solutions, focusing on threat detection, incident response, and secure cloud deployments, including IaaS.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant security experience (network, systems, or application security).
• Experience with network security analysis or intrusion management.
• Experience with malware and vulnerability identification and mitigation.
• Experience identifying software and application compromises and vulnerabilities.
• Experience with secure deployment of infrastructure‑as‑a‑service (IaaS).
• Demonstrated experience in FedRAMP and/or CMMC certified environments.

Responsibilities

• Research adversarial techniques, emerging vulnerabilities, and related detection and response strategies.
• Conduct security assessments of networks, applications and systems to identify risks and mitigations.
• Assist with design and deployment of security controls to mitigate risks.
• Perform compliance and policy-based investigations of internal systems.
• Document security guidelines, procedures, and policies (emphasizing NIST 800-53 and 800-171).
• Provide security guidance and consultation to Akamai business units.
• Leverage AI capabilities to enhance security processes and automation.
• Develop scripts and tools to support security functions.

As a Senior Security Engineer you will be assessing and mitigating the risk of doing business in today's hyper‑connected world. You will work directly with Akamai's IT and engineering organizations, providing security design guidance for new and existing applications, systems, and platforms.

Responsibilities

• Researching and staying current on adversarial techniques, emerging vulnerabilities, and related detection and response strategies.
• Conducting network, application and system security assessments to identify risks and provide mitigation strategies.
• Assisting with design and deployment of security risk mitigating controls.
• Performing compliance and policy‑based investigations of internal systems.
• Documenting security guidelines, procedures, and policies with a particular emphasis on NIST 800‑53 and NIST 800‑171.
• Providing security guidance and consultation to Akamai business units.
• Leveraging emerging AI capabilities to enhance new and existing processes and automation.
• Developing scripts and tools to support the above functions.

Qualifications

• Have 5+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree.
• Proven experience with network security analysis or intrusion management.
• Experience with malware and vulnerability identification and mitigation.
• Experience identifying software and application compromises and vulnerabilities.
• Experience with the secure deployment and usage of infrastructure‑as‑a‑service.
• Demonstrated experience working in a FedRAMP and/or CMMC certified environment.

Compensation

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $112,500 - $202,500/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
