Job summary

The Office of the Illinois Secretary of State, located at 69 W Washington Ave, Chicago, IL, seeks a Senior Legal Advisor– Securities Department to oversee enforcement activities and supervise attorneys in hearings, investigations and research. This role advises department officials, handles complex securities matters, and travels statewide as needed.

Qualifications

• Requires possession of a license to practice law in Illinois
• Three (3) years of professional experience in the practice of law
• Extensive knowledge of state and federal securities law and enforcement procedures

Responsibilities

• Supervise the legal staff and coordinate workflow within the Enforcement/Legal Division
• Conduct investigations of securities fraud and related violations; issue subpoenas and conduct depositions
• Represent the department in hearings, present evidence, and argue cases before hearing officers
• Provide counsel to examiners and auditors on background checks of public records and prior activities of respondents
• Research and draft memoranda on complex legal issues and participate in rulemaking and legislative drafting
