Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Sr Electrical Hardware Design Engineer to join the COMSEC team within Core Systems and Components. You will lead design, verification, and documentation of secure communication hardware, collaborating with cybersecurity, software, and FPGA teams across the full lifecycle.

The role requires a 10+ year track record in electrical hardware design, experience with high-speed digital systems, and familiarity with FIPS standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in electrical hardware design.
• Experience designing high speed digital systems.
• Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB design tools.
• FIPS 140‑2 or FIPS 140‑3 standards familiarity and application to hardware design.
• Strong understanding of digital and analog circuit design principles.
• Experience with FPGA-based designs and software interfacing.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-disciplinary engineering environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and verification of electrical hardware for secure communications (COMSEC) systems.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Cybersecurity, Software, and FPGA engineering teams throughout the full hardware development lifecycle.
• Develop and review schematics, PCB layouts, and hardware design documentation.
• Define and execute hardware verification and validation plans.
• Support hardware integration, testing, and troubleshooting efforts.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Ensure designs meet applicable standards, requirements, and security protocols.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
