Job summary

Blue Origin is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the SDN and Network Observability team in Cupertino, CA. You will design and develop software that manages, routes, and monitors our TeraWave satellite network in real time.

You will build distributed services for planning, telemetry, and observability across thousands of terminals and orbital assets, collaborating with spacecraft, RF, networking, and ground systems engineers to ensure resilience and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field plus 8+ years of distributed software engineering experience.
• Experience building distributed microservices and APIs in cloud-native or large-scale production environments.
• Strong programming skills in Go, Rust, Java, or C++.
• Experience with Kafka, Kinesis, Pulsar or similar messaging/streaming systems.
• Experience designing scalable data systems with SQL/NoSQL databases and search/streaming tech.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop highly available, low-latency distributed services for network orchestration and telemetry across the TeraWave constellation.
• Build software to plan, disseminate, and coordinate state across terrestrial, orbital, and user segments.
• Develop scalable data pipelines to ingest and process high-volume telemetry streams for better visibility and responsiveness.
• Design data models and storage solutions to support real-time workflows across multiple platforms.
• Build APIs and services enabling communication between network planning, control, and execution components.
• Collaborate with spacecraft, RF, networking, and ground systems engineers to integrate software across the platform.
• Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks in large distributed systems focusing on latency and throughput.
• Participate in on-call rotations and mission operations support as required.
