Blue Origin is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Software Defined Network and Network Observability Team in California. You will design and develop software to manage and monitor our dynamic satellite network, building distributed services for planning, telemetry, and observability across thousands of terminals and assets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field.
• 8+ years in distributed systems, networking, and backend platforms.
• Proficiency in Go, Rust, Java, or C++.
• Experience building distributed microservices and APIs in cloud environments.
• Experience with messaging/streaming platforms (Kafka, Kinesis, Pulsar).
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL/search/time-series databases.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts like fault tolerance, scalability, and resiliency.
• Excellent collaboration and communication across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop highly available, low-latency distributed services for network orchestration and telemetry.
• Create software to plan, disseminate, and coordinate state across infrastructure and users.
• Build scalable data pipelines to process telemetry for visibility and responsiveness.
• Design data models and storage solutions for real-time workflows.
• Develop APIs and services enabling communication between planning, control, and execution components.
• Collaborate with engineers across spacecraft, RF, networking, and ground systems.
• Diagnose performance bottlenecks and ensure operational reliability.
• Support on-call rotations and mission-critical services as needed.
• Contribute to architecture reviews and engineering best practices.
