Job summary

Akamai Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Principal Software Development Engineer in Test to own VM/fleet test strategy, performance quality gates, and hypervisor behavior validation across the IaaS platform.

Join our Compute team in Salt Lake City, Utah, and partner with product and SRE to define SLOs, validate deployment safety, and build reusable test environments that emulate bare-metal VM conditions using containers.

Qualifications

• 12 years in testing, including performance testing and hypervisor platforms.
• Experience with KVM/QEMU/libvirt internals and VM-exits.
• Linux fundamentals: scheduler, memory, I/O, storage, and blocks.
• Statistical thinking and CI/CD awareness.

Responsibilities

• Define and own test strategy for hypervisor behavior, VM performance, and fleet-level quality gates.
• Mentor SDETs on statistical rigor and systems-level testing.
• Design reproducible test environments emulating bare-metal VM conditions using containers.
• Develop automated performance benchmarks with statistical baselines and regression gates.
• Collaborate with product and SRE to define SLO measurement and validate deployment safety.
