Job summary

Synack is seeking a Senior QA Engineer to drive quality in cybersecurity software. You will validate software with automation, build tests across REST APIs and web layers, and work with security and software engineers to extend system-level testing.

Ideal candidates have 7+ years in QA, SDET background, and strong JS/TS development skills. This role emphasizes automation, CI/CD, and rapid iteration in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years in Software Quality Engineering with SDET experience and JS/TS development.
• Strong debugging in multi-tier web architectures and REST APIs.
• Hands-on with automation framework design and internal tooling.
• Experience in CI tooling, GitHub Actions, and cloud familiarity.

Job description

As a Senior QA Engineer you will work on game‑changing problems in cybersecurity. You will validate software using cutting‑edge technologies and take testing to the next level as part of a collaborative environment.

Here’s what you’ll do

• Debug software products through the use of systematic tests to develop, apply and maintain quality standards for firm products.
• Develop, modify and execute software test plans, automated scripts and programs for testing.
• Contribute to the existing automation tools to add enhancements and improve maintainability.
• Maintain documentation of test results to assist in debugging and modification of software.
• Analyze test results to ensure existing functionality and recommend corrective action.
• Consult with development engineers in resolution of problems.
• Provide feedback in preparation of technical appraisals of programming languages, systems and computation software.
• Ensure quality computer integration into the overall functions of scientific computation, data acquisition and processing.
• Maintain and improve our automated testing and continuous integration systems.
• Collaborate with a team of security and software engineers to develop system level testing.
• Interface with sales and customers to recreate, diagnose, and help resolve field issues.
• Learn new technologies as needed to build tools and improve efficiency and productivity.

Here’s what you’ll need

• BS degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years in Software Quality Engineering, at least 3 of which as SDET and 2 years developing in Javascript/Typescript.
• Proficiency in Javascript and/or Typescript.
• Experience developing internal tools to improve developer experience and productivity.
• Excellent debugging skills in diagnosing issues in a multi‑tier web architecture.
• Ability to adapt and work in a fast‑paced agile environment.
• Comfort with writing and reading code, and a basic understanding of data structures.
• Hands‑on experience with automation framework design and development from scratch.
• Experience with writing backend integration tests for RESTful APIs.
• Front‑end test automation expertise in TestCafe, Cypress, Playwright or similar tools (we use Playwright).
• Experience with BDD tools.
• CI tooling experience with GitHub Actions or similar, and understanding of source control and release management in the context of when/where/why/how to test.
• Understanding of virtualization and containerization technologies (Docker).
• Understanding of Lean and Agile methodologies.
• Understanding of Cloud technologies, like AWS, GCP, Azure.
• Experience analyzing logs.
• Experience testing agentic systems and using agents to optimize daily workflow.

Nice to have

• Experience with testing cloud‑based products/applications.
• Knowledge and understanding of different kinds of VPNs.
• Experience with load and performance testing.

$170,000 - $200,000 salary is determined by a combination of factors including location, level, relevant experience, and skills. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all U.S. locations.
