Job summary

Amazon Athena is an interactive query service that simplifies data analysis in Amazon S3 using standard SQL. We are seeking a Sr.

Software Development Engineer to join the Athena Engine team to build distributed systems, extend features like Federated Query and UDFs, and drive deeper insights for customers. You will mentor teammates, influence architecture, and collaborate across teams to deliver scalable, reliable solutions in a serverless environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 5+ years programming with at least one language.
• 5+ years leading design or architecture of new and existing systems.
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.
• 5+ years SDLC experience including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
• 4+ years of highly scalable systems experience.
• Experience with training and deploying machine learning systems to solve large-scale optimizations, or operating distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets.

Responsibilities

• Our ideal candidate has excellent programming skills and can independently design distributed systems that delight customers.
• As a senior engineer, you will help extend Athena, scale and automate operations, and mentor others on the team.
• Work with the Insights & Extensions team to deliver the right solutions for customers across Athena control plane and engine partners.
