Job summary

FirstEnergy is seeking a Scoping & Estimating Engineer to develop, validate and manage project scopes and estimates for transmission line and substation projects. You will work with engineers, drafters and designers to ensure timely and accurate estimates and adherence to safety standards.

Responsibilities include preparing conceptual estimates, coordinating with sponsors, reviewing estimates for completeness, and supporting project challenges. Occasional travel within service area is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required.
• Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

• Analyze technical project documents to develop conceptual estimates for projects.
• Determine factors of production influencing cost and document risks.
• Develop project plan and materials with input from sponsors.
• Review estimates for adequacy and instruct revisions when required.
• Ensure designs meet FE standards and safety considerations.
• Oversee project scope feasibility, layout, and scheduling constraints.
• Maintain scopes and estimates through project phases and manage change documentation.
• Provide status reports and support emergent needs.
• Validate estimates including contingency and escalation.
• Oversee consultants and contractors and ensure QA/QC.
