Job summary

Roche in California is seeking a Senior Scientist, Reagent/Assay Development to advance reagents and assays for NGS applications. The role combines hands-on lab work, experimental design, data analysis, and troubleshooting to improve performance and manufacturability.

You will collaborate with automation, software, engineering, quality, and operations teams to support product development and transfer to manufacturing. A Bachelor's with 5 years NGS experience is required; PhD is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological/Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field with at least 5 years of NGS experience.
  • Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, genetics, bioengineering, or related field is preferred, with 0–3 years NGS research/industry experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with NGS workflows and molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience with laboratory automation, automated instrumentation, and workflow development.
  • Proficiency in Python or similar languages for data analysis and automation.
  • Familiarity with DOE, statistical analysis, and process optimization is a plus.
  • Experience collaborating with automation, software, and mechanical engineering teams is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and validate assays to assess the quality of reagents.
  • Contribute to establishment of manufacturing processes for reagents and transfer to operations.
  • Analyze experimental data, form conclusions, and present findings to project teams.
  • Identify and resolve issues related to reagent performance, assay development, or manufacturing processes.
  • Work with scientists, engineers, and operations to implement new reagents.
  • Maintain good laboratory practices, records, and instrument upkeep.
  • Stay up-to-date with literature and advancements in reagent development.
