Job summary

Flagship Pioneering's FL130 seeks a Senior Scientist with deep molecular biology and membrane protein engineering to help build a novel platform. You will design constructs, build libraries, and validate expression in mammalian cells, shaping the scientific direction of FL130.

This early hire will lead design-build-test cycles, troubleshoot challenging proteins, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance high-throughput screening and downstream readouts.

Qualifications

• PhD trained in molecular biology, protein engineering, biochemistry, bioengineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of industry or postdoctoral experience in relevant areas.
• Hands-on experience designing and building membrane protein constructs.
• Experience engineering plasmids and libraries at scale.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot expression, folding, and design in parallel.

Responsibilities

• Design, engineer, and optimize membrane protein constructs across architectures and topologies.
• Troubleshoot construct design, expression, and folding.
• Perform molecular biology and plasmid engineering at scale, including QC and sequencing verification.
• Design and run assays to characterize expression and performance; drive design-build-test cycles.
• Optimize workflows and establish best practices for platform excellence.
• Collaborate with screening and translational teams to ensure constructs suit downstream readouts.
• Translate data into insights and contribute to scientific strategy.
