Job Description

The Analytical Research & Development team is seeking a talented, highly motivated candidate with experience in the characterization of peptide and oligonucleotide biomolecules. This is a laboratory-based role, responsible for designing, developing, and implementing analytical methods for the characterization of peptides and oligonucleotides, with an emphasis on mass spectrometry-based methods. The candidate should possess a strong understanding of their core discipline and collaborate across the global Analytical R&D organization and with cross-functional partners such as Pre-Clinical Safety (PCS), Process Chemistry, Process Engineering, Drug Product Development (DPD), Quality Assurance (QA), and CMC-Regulatory.

Responsibilities
  1. Utilize cutting-edge mass spectrometry techniques, including high-resolution MS, MS/MS, ion mobility-MS, and 2DLC-MS, to characterize small molecule, peptide, and oligonucleotide drug products, active pharmaceutical ingredients, intermediates, starting materials, and impurities.
  2. Identify, develop, and implement novel analytical methods for the characterization of peptide and oligonucleotide pharmaceuticals, focusing on LC-MS and biophysical characterization to support discovery and development pipelines.
  3. Lead structure elucidation efforts and collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance projects through development stages.
  4. Support new product development with method development, validation, technical transfer, and regulatory data generation.
  5. Work autonomously in laboratory research or method development with minimal supervision.
  6. Analyze multidisciplinary data to draw conclusions and plan follow-up experiments.
  7. Initiate meaningful new research areas that can be incorporated into R&D programs.
  8. Communicate and collaborate effectively with cross-functional groups.
  9. Demonstrate scientific initiative, creativity, and high productivity in the lab.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or closely related field, with 10 (BS), 8 (MS), or 0-2 (Ph.D.) years of industry experience.
  2. Extensive experience with mass spectrometry experiments for peptides, proteins, and oligonucleotides, and a solid understanding of instrument theory and operation.
  3. Strong background in analytical chemistry and problem-solving skills; capable of developing and troubleshooting methods independently.
  4. Practical knowledge of organic structure, chemistry, biochemistry, and spectroscopic techniques.
  5. Peptide synthesis experience is a plus.
  6. Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Experience with computerized data systems.
  8. Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively across disciplines.
