Solid Power, Inc. is seeking a Sr. Scientist I to lead catholyte development within the R&D group.

The role focuses on advancing electrolyte materials for solid-state batteries, mentoring a small team, and guiding experimental programs to translate fundamental insights into commercial performance. The ideal candidate brings deep electrochemistry expertise, hands-on lab leadership, and a track record of technical innovations while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet development

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master’s with significant industry experience in related field.
• Experience leading complex R&D projects.
• Strong electrochemical fundamentals: experimental design, method development, data analysis.
• Mastery of electroanalytical methods: three-electrode measurements, impedance spectroscopy, DRT analysis, voltammetry, chrono techniques.
• Experience with materials characterization and advanced analytical instrumentation.
• Mentoring and developing others to independently lead experiments.
• Ability to interpret complex data and clearly communicate to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proven record of technical innovation (publications, patents, products).
• Collaborative, multidisciplinary teamwork experience.
• Hands-on lab approach: design/execute experiments, troubleshoot, work with team.

Responsabilités

• Lead catholyte product development within R&D.
• Develop mechanism understanding of transport phenomena, interfacial stability, microstructure, and mechanical limits of electrolytes in cathode composites.
• Use electrochemistry, microscopy, and characterization to link structure, property, and performance.
• Develop and validate new characterization methods and analytical tools.
• Analyze complex datasets and provide actionable recommendations.
• Manage 1–3 scientists; set goals, conduct 1:1 meetings, write reviews.
• Mentor team members to grow scientific abilities.
• Collaborate with modeling, engineering, manufacturing for scale-up.
• Communicate findings to technical teams, leadership, customers, collaborators.
• Define technical milestones with program management; track progress.
• Stay current with industry trends; evaluate new materials/technologies.
• Protect IP via invention disclosures and patent applications.
• Champion safe lab practices and continuous improvement.
