Job summary

Solid Power seeks an experienced product engineer with a background in materials chemistry and battery systems to join the Electrolyte Systems Engineering team. The role focuses on synthesis, characterization, and performance improvement of solid-state electrolyte powders to meet customer needs.

Responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional teams, mentoring juniors, and documenting experiments while adhering to SOPs and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• PhD required in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in chemical manufacturing or battery industry desirable.
• Experience with inorganic, solid-state, or synthetic chemistry.
• Experience with materials characterization techniques (XRD, TGA, DSC, FT-IR, Raman, SEM) and electrochemical testing (battery cycling, CV, EIS, GITT).
• Experience working with air- and water-sensitive materials.

Responsibilities

• Identify key factors for success in electrolyte synthesis and downstream processing to improve product quality and performance.
• Conduct relevant characterization (physical, chemical, electrochemical) on electrolytes and electrode materials to relate upstream processes to properties and performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve electrolyte production and performance, aligning with customer needs.
• Follow safety protocols and maintain required PPE.
• Mentor junior team members, operators, and interns.
• Maintain thorough and accurate records of experimentation.
• Document and update SOPs as processes evolve.
