Job summary

MSD in Rahway, NJ seeks a Senior Scientist, Engineering to drive safe and robust manufacturing processes for late-stage small molecules. The role centers on microbial fermentation, enzyme production, process characterization, and technology transfer within a cGMP framework.

You will mentor a cross-functional team, perform hands-on bench and kilo-lab work, and contribute to regulatory filings and quality-by-design initiatives.

Qualifications

• PhD in Chemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Biological Engineering, Synthetic Biology, or related field.
• Three years of experience in chemical, pharmaceutical, large molecule, or vaccine process development.
• Experience with microbial fermentation and downstream process development and optimization.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor staff and lead cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop safe and robust manufacturing processes through characterization, technology transfer, validation, and supply support for late-stage projects.
• Optimize enzyme manufacturing process control across scales, leveraging microbial fermentation and downstream processing expertise.
• Mentor junior staff and enhance fermentation and downstream processing labs.
• Support transfer of technologies to commercial manufacturing and conduct DOE-based experiments.
• Ensure safety, quality, and compliance with cGMPs and GDPs.
