Job summary

Profluent Bio, Inc in Emeryville, CA is seeking a Scientist II – Sr. Scientist to build experimental workflows for base editor specificity and off‑target discovery.

You will scale CHANGE-seq-BE and related assays to identify DNA/RNA off-targets and support editor design decisions. The role requires a PhD with 2–4 years in genome editing, strong NGS/data interpretation skills, and ability to collaborate across protein engineering, cell biology, and computational biology teams to drive program

Qualifications

• PhD (or equivalent) in molecular biology, genomics, or related field with 2–4 years of industry experience in genome editing specificity and genomic safety assessment.
• Experience with CRISPR-based editing systems and base editors, including specificity risks such as DNA/RNA off-target editing and bystander effects.
• Hands-on with NGS-based workflows for genome editing analysis (CHANGE-seq, GUIDE-seq, SITE-seq, etc.) and data interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead strategy for base editor specificity assessment and off-target discovery workflows.
• Develop, benchmark, and apply orthogonal methods to evaluate editing specificity across editing modalities.
• Design and execute studies to identify off-target events and validate with NGS-based data.
• Generate high-quality datasets to inform editor engineering and program decisions.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, cell biology, and computational teams to integrate workflows.
