Job summary

Vaxcyte is seeking a Senior Scientist, Analytical Development, to lead method development for biologics/vaccine programs at our San Carlos, CA site. The role requires hands-on lab work, problem solving, and mentoring junior staff to drive robust analytical capabilities.

The successful candidate will define strategies, supervise optimization, and ensure documentation and readiness for audits, while collaborating across teams to meet project milestones.

Qualifications

• PhD, MS or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related scientific discipline.
• PhD with 5+ years; MS with 8+ years; BS with 10+ years of relevant industry experience in analytical development, QC, or related field.
• Extensive hands-on experience across a broad analytical technique such as UV-Vis, HPLC, CE, SDS-PAGE, icIEF, LC, MS, ELISA, and related assays.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for method development, optimization and qualification/validation readiness.
• Define development strategies and roadmaps, identify critical method attributes, and align with regulatory expectations.
• Lead troubleshooting and investigations across assays/instrumentation; mentor others in problem-solving.
• Lead authorship and review of methods, SOPs, protocols, and technical reports; establish documentation standards for audits/inspections.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to align analytical strategy with program milestones.
• Champion a culture of scientific excellence, compliance, and continuous improvement.
