Job summary

Washington State University’s Brayton lab in the College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a Scientific Assistant Senior to support genomics, cell biology, diagnostics, and vaccine development for Anaplasma spp. The role includes DNA work, qPCR, RNA-seq, protein analyses, and animal work; regular lab maintenance and ordering are required.

The position is full-time and temporary, ending September 30, 2027, with potential renewal based on funding.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related scientific or engineering discipline with four years of relevant research experience
  • PhD may substitute for up to two years of experience
  • Five years of professional lab experience preferred
  • Ability to design experiments and analyze results; work independently and in a team
  • Hands-on knowledge of Anaplasma species or related rickettsias

Responsibilities

  • DNA isolation, cloning and sequencing (Sanger and HTS)
  • Quantitative PCR and RNA-seq
  • Assistance with animal work and gene gun immunization
  • Protein analysis (expression, purification, Westerns, ELISAs, IPs, mass spectrometry)
  • Yeast library construction; routine lab maintenance and ordering
