Job summary

The American Heart Association is seeking a Science and Medicine Advisor (SMA) to direct and guide volunteers who provide clinical and research expertise. The SMA will help produce scientific statements, guidelines, online and in-person educational programs, and contribute to policy stances.

Ideal candidates have advanced clinical degrees with research experience, strong writing ability, and the capacity to manage multiple projects while traveling about 25% of the time.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in clinical field.
• Doctoral degree preferred.
• Strong writing and communication with a publication history.
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects with time constraints.
• Willingness to travel overnight ~25%.

Responsibilities

• Guide science volunteers in creating scientific statements, advisories, guidelines and programs.
• Provide consultation on science aspects to internal staff for programs, publications, and materials.
• Review content for Association websites and products.
• Explain current state of science to lay professionals and staff and discuss implications.
