Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer focused on SCADA to lead design, integration, and implementation of advanced SCADA solutions for critical infrastructure. You will advise customers and project teams, applying expertise in automation, communications, and control systems.

You will design and develop SCADA systems, HMIs, and interfaces, configure RTUs/PLCs/IEDs, and participate in FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities to ensure high-quality, secure

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Automation Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience.
• Typically 10+ years of relevant experience with SCADA, industrial control systems, or OT environments.
• Experience configuring and troubleshooting RTUs, PLCs, IEDs, and industrial communications systems.
• Knowledge of Ethernet/TCP-IP networks, switches, routers, and security practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, configure, and support SCADA systems for utility, industrial, and critical infrastructure applications.
• Develop HMI applications for secure operator interaction with monitored systems.
• Integrate RTUs/PLCs/IEDs and field devices into SCADA environments.
• Develop communication interfaces using DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101/104, ICCP/TASE.2, OPC UA.
• Support FAT, SAT, commissioning activities and system validation.
• Design SCADA network architectures including Ethernet, serial, fiber, radio, and WAN links.
• Partner on DMS/microgrid applications and dashboards for alarms and real-time monitoring.
• Provide technical training and consultation to customers and internal teams.
