Job summary

Doeren Mayhew seeks a Senior Tax Associate to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) team. The role focuses on state and local tax compliance and consulting, serving a diverse client base across multiple offices including Duluth, GA.

Strong research and advisory skills are essential, with mentorship duties for junior staff. Applicants should have 2 years in SALT, CPA track preferred, and be capable of managing several projects in a fast-paced firm environment while delivering high-quality client

Qualifications

• Bachelor's and/or master's degree in accounting, taxation, or related field.
• CPA or CPA track preferred, but not required.
• 2 years of experience in state and local tax, preferably in a public accounting or consulting firm.
• Knowledge of state and local tax laws and regulations.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and research skills; strong written and verbal communication.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare or review state and local sales tax returns, personal property tax returns, C-corporation, S-corporation, and Partnership income returns.
• Conduct research and provide technical advice on state and local tax issues.
• Assist clients with state and local tax audits, including audit defense and negotiation.
• Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize state and local tax liabilities.
• Stay current on state and local tax laws and regulations and communicate changes to clients and team members.
• Research technical matters related to state and local tax.
• Mentor and train staff members, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure comprehensive client service.
