Job summary

Doeren Mayhew seeks a Senior Tax Associate to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) team. The ideal candidate has a background in SALT compliance and consulting on income, property, or sales tax, serving a diverse client base and contributing to the growth of the SALT practice.

The role offers opportunities to mentor staff, collaborate across departments, and support clients from our Houston, TX office and other locations. Strong research and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's and/or master's degree in accounting, taxation, or a related field.
• CPA or CPA track preferred.
• 2+ years of state and local tax experience in a public accounting or consulting environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare or review state and local tax returns (sales, personal property, C-/S-/P partnerships).
• Conduct tax research and provide technical advice on SALT issues.
• Assist clients with state/local tax audits, including defense and negotiation.
• Develop tax planning strategies to minimize SALT liabilities.
• Stay current on SALT laws and communicate changes to clients and team.
• Research technical SALT matters and regulatory developments.
• Mentor staff and support professional development.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure comprehensive client service.
