Job summary

Sorren, Inc. is seeking a senior SALT leader to guide state and local tax strategy, planning, and controversy resolution for a diverse client base. The role focuses on multi-state tax issues, compliance, and strategic advising to mid-market and closely held businesses.

You will mentor teams, lead complex SALT engagements, and collaborate with cross-functional professionals to deliver integrated tax solutions while expanding client relationships and practice capabilities.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in tax with leadership experience and State & Local Tax specialization
• CPA license or equivalent
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
• Deep expertise in multistate income/franchise tax, nexus, and tax planning
• Experience advising middle-market and closely held businesses
• Strong knowledge of state tax laws and regulatory developments
• Experience managing complex client engagements from planning through implementation
• Ability to identify tax savings opportunities and deliver strategic consulting beyond compliance
• Excellent research, analytical, communication, and leadership skills
• Proven leadership in mentoring teams and developing future leaders

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical leader for SALT matters, advising on multistate tax planning and compliance
• Lead SALT engagements including nexus studies, VDAs, taxability analyses and audits
• Advise on state/local tax implications of mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and expansions
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and communicate impacts to clients and teams
• Collaborate with other tax and advisory professionals to deliver integrated solutions
• Build trusted advisor relationships with CFOs, tax directors, and business owners
• Review technical research and client deliverables for quality and accuracy
• Mentor and coach managers, senior associates, and associates
• Support business development through networking, proposals, and thought leadership
• Drive practice development initiatives, training, and process improvements
• Manage engagement budgets, staffing, timelines, profitability, and client satisfaction
• Meet annual billable hour and business development targets
