Role Summary

The Senior Safety Specialist will coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine and complex construction projects. This position will be responsible for conducting safety inspections, identifying and documenting abatement of hazardous conditions, writing reports, and performing trend analysis. All activities will support the strategy, vision, and values of JE Dunn.

Key Role Responsibilities - Core
  • Coordinates and implements the field safety program for routine construction projects.
  • Conducts regular walk-through inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with laws and company policies.
  • Performs safety audits, identifies hazards, documents findings, and recommends abatement measures, utilizing safety management systems.
  • Conducts project-specific new hire orientations and oversees drug and alcohol policy compliance.
  • Monitors safety programs of prime contractors and subcontractors.
  • Participates in project meetings to discuss safety issues.
  • Supports field leadership in safety program implementation, including chairing safety committees.
  • Assists in investigating accidents and recommends process improvements.
  • Coordinates with injured employees and clinics for treatment and return-to-work processes.
  • Monitors site safety incentive programs.

  • Handling complex safety hazards and providing advanced abatements solutions.
  • Applying extensive knowledge of equipment, laws, and work processes to safety recommendations.
  • Playing an active role in safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Using safety management systems for trend analysis and risk mitigation.
  • Providing guidance and training on safety topics.
  • Supporting safety leadership during audits.
  • Managing complex projects and training strategies.
  • Developing and implementing training programs and technologies.
  • Monitoring safety metrics and training needs.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Accuracy, timeliness, and completeness in work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and safety software.
  • Ability to recognize hazards and enforce safety regulations.
  • Strong relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of environmental hazard testing protocols.
  • Intermediate construction technology skills.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in safety and health-related field preferred or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5 years construction safety experience required.
Working Environment
  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required.
