Job summary
Discord is seeking a Senior Engineer on the Safety Experience team to design, build, and maintain features that protect hundreds of millions of users while ensuring regulatory compliance. You will lead the development of high‑visibility, user‑facing safety features, deploy robust production APIs and data pipelines, and collaborate with Product, Design, Policy, Data Science, ML, Legal, and T&S Operations.
This role reports to the Engineering Manager of Safety Experience and offers a US base
Qualifications
- 5+ years of Python backend development experience.
- 5+ years building frontend UIs with React/TypeScript.
- Experience with databases such as Cassandra, Postgres, or ScyllaDB.
- Proven track record delivering complex projects end-to-end.
- Strong debugging and live production troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication.
Responsibilities
- Lead development of user-facing safety features at scale.
- Design and deploy production APIs, services, and data pipelines.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Policy, Data Science, ML, Legal, and ops.
- Iterate on in‑house tooling to improve workflows.
- Respond quickly to evolving abuse and compliance landscapes.
