Job summary

Kiewit is seeking a Safety Manager for transportation/infrastructure projects, based on heavy civil work. The role spans safety management and field oversight across projects in Southern California and Texas, with relocation and travel required to project sites.

The candidate should bring 5+ years in construction safety, CHST certification, and strong knowledge of OSHA standards, plus the ability to lead training, investigations, and compliance efforts while promoting a culture of safety.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in construction safety management.
• 30-hour OSHA construction safety class within the last 5 years.
• CHST certification required; CSP, EM385, CPR/First Aid, EMT and OSHA/MSHA instructor certifications preferred.
• Average of at least 24 hours of formal safety training each year with competent person status in at least four competencies.
• In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards; strong communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive safety plans for heavy civil, transportation, and water resource projects.
• Ensure safety protocols align with regulatory requirements and company standards.
• Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards and assess risks.
• Deliver safety training for employees and subcontractors; guide on required certifications.
• Lead safety investigations into incidents and near misses; implement corrective actions.
• Establish KPIs to measure safety performance and conduct audits for adherence to standards.
• Provide timely safety reports to project management and senior leadership.
