Job summary

OxyChem in Geismar, Louisiana, is seeking a Safety Engineer to protect people, processes and the environment in our private carriage operations. The role focuses on implementing safety programs, incident investigations, and compliance across sites.

You will lead training, audits, and emergency preparedness, with responsibilities spanning Geismar and Wichita facilities and reporting to the HESS team. A strong safety background is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in safety or related field required.
• Minimum 4 years’ safety/environmental experience in a manufacturing setting.
• Thorough understanding of DOT, OSHA, and environmental regulations as well as OxyChem's HESS policies.
• Ability to analyze data and translate technical information for non-technical audiences.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft applications.
• Must be able to respond to off-hour emergencies and work weekends/holidays.

Responsibilities

• Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate.
• Lead safety training, inspections, incident investigations, and emergency response readiness.
• Develop and oversee HESS programs, audits, and compliance with regulatory requirements (DOT/OSHA, FRA, etc.).
• Maintain DOT driver qualification files and coordinate physical exams and background checks.
• Provide backup supervision for Geismar, Louisiana, and Wichita, Kansas operations.
