Job summary

Kraken is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Consumer team to own the architecture and delivery of customer-facing Rust backend services powering trading, payments, and crypto experiences.

You will take ambiguous problems from concept to shipped solutions, own features end-to-end, and collaborate with product leadership to shape roadmaps. Mentoring, AI tooling, and cross-team collaboration are key parts of the role.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience, with deep Rust proficiency across network services, asynchronous code, and distributed systems design.
• Track record of owning systems, making architectural decisions in production, and explaining tradeoffs.
• Product engineering mindset with understanding of customer experience and product metrics.
• Demonstrated impact through mentoring, design reviews, or setting standards.
• Experience driving work across teams or orgs requiring alignment and sequencing.
• AI-first development approach, using AI for coding and understanding unfamiliar codebases.
• Ownership mindset with collaborative spirit across backend/frontend boundaries.
• Openness to evolving engineering practices influenced by AI.

Responsibilities

• Take ambiguous, multi-quarter problems from idea to shipped and measured outcomes.
• Own features end-to-end, including frontend impact and product problem alignment.
• Partner with product leadership to shape roadmaps and outcomes for a product area.
• Drive initiatives that cross team boundaries, aligning infrastructure and platform work.
• Mentor mid-level engineers, review designs, and establish patterns and standards.
• Leverage AI to amplify scope and speed in engineering efforts.
