Job summary

Upbound Group, Inc. is seeking an experienced Software Engineer III (Enablement) to design, build, and maintain core Ruby on Rails backend services powering our fintech platforms. In-office role based in Draper, Utah, with collaboration across product and delivery teams in an agile environment.

You will contribute to scalable APIs, ensure code quality through TDD, and mentor junior engineers while staying current with evolving technologies and industry trends.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in backend or distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design and scalable backend services.
• Proficient in PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases.
• Familiar with cloud platforms (AWS) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and RSpec.

Responsibilities

• Contributing to the full software development lifecycle, from concept and design to automated testing, deployment, and monitoring.
• Designing and implementing robust, scalable backend services and APIs primarily using Ruby on Rails.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams in an agile scrum environment to deliver new features.
• Ensuring code quality through unit/integration testing, code reviews, and best practices.
• Identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks, database query inefficiencies, and security risks.
• Mentoring junior and mid-level developers and promoting technical excellence.
