Job summary

SmartFinancial, a leading insurer-tech company in Newport Beach, is hiring a Senior Full Stack Ruby on Rails Engineer to build and scale core agent-facing, carrier-facing, and internal platforms. The role involves hands-on full-stack work, architectural input, and close collaboration with product teams.

The position requires 6–10 years of Rails experience, strong backend/API and frontend skills, and a solid foundation in AWS, databases, and code reviews.

Qualifications

• 6–10 years of professional experience building production apps with Ruby on Rails.
• Strong backend/API design and front-end fundamentals (HTML/CSS/JS).
• Experience with AWS and relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL).
• Proficient using Git/GitHub and collaborative workflows.
• Bachelor’s or higher in CS/Engineering or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, deployment, and maintenance of scalable Rails apps across platforms.
• Contribute to architecture for performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Build front-end experiences using modern JS frameworks and standard HTML/CSS.
• Design and optimize relational databases, leveraging ORM and best practices.
• Collaborate with product, design, and cross-functional teams to deliver features.
• Mentor engineers through reviews and technical guidance.
• Champion code quality, testing, security, and observability.
• Build and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure and services.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines for faster, safer deployments.
• Participate in agile ceremonies in a fast-paced environment.
