Job summary

Jobtailor in the United States is seeking an experienced developer/manager to design, develop, test, and maintain business applications using RPG on IBM i (AS/400). You will work with WebSphere, deploy and tune applications, and lead a small development team on cross-functional initiatives.

This role requires strong SQL/database skills, SDLC know-how, and the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in RPG development on IBM i (AS/400) including designing, coding, testing and maintaining business applications.
• Hands-on WebSphere experience including deployment, configuration, and performance tuning.
• Experience supervising or mentoring technical teams, including task coordination and review of technical deliverables.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases and SQL.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain business applications using RPG on IBM i (AS/400).
• Work with WebSphere and related application server technologies, including deployment, configuration, maintenance, and performance optimization.
• Supervise and mentor a small development team, coordinate workloads, review deliverables, and support professional development.
• Troubleshoot application and system issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement solutions.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Review code and promote software development best practices.
• Participate in release and change management activities.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, system specifications, processes, and solution designs.
