Job summary

LiquidPiston is seeking a Senior Engine Sealing Engineer in Bloomfield, CT, onsite five days a week. You will lead rotary seal development, bearing design, and tribology studies for high‑temperature engine components, coordinating with R&D and manufacturing to validate performance and reliability.

The role requires deep expertise in seals, materials science, and dynamic simulation, with hands‑on testing and data-driven reporting to drive innovation in advanced internal combustion engines.

Qualifications

• 5+ years designing, developing and validating ICE power cylinder ring packs and bearings.
• Proficiency with advanced simulation tools (FEA/CFD) and Ring Dynamics software.
• Deep understanding of high‑temperature materials for severe engine environments.
• Experience with surface treatments or coatings for friction reduction and wear resistance.
• Ability to work independently and in fast-paced R&D teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead rotary seal development including Apex Seals and Face Seals.
• Contribute to journal bearing design and optimization for stability.
• Apply tribology to minimize wear and optimize lubrication.
• Develop 1D/3D dynamic models to analyze seal motion and leakage.
• Perform thermal and structural analysis (FEA/CFD) on sealing components.
• Design and analyze engine test plans focused on seal performance.
• Troubleshoot sealing‑related engine issues from dyno tests.
• Communicate findings clearly to stakeholders.
