Job summary

Berkshire Grey is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for manipulation on the Scoop program in Bedford, MA. You will define architecture, set technical direction, and develop advanced software enabling robots to interact with environments to complete complex tasks.

You will lead motion planning, kinematics, control strategies, and multi-arm coordination, while mentoring engineers and guiding cross-functional teams from concept to production deployment and long-term support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, or related field; 10+ years in production software
• Expert-level Python and strong C++ programming
• Deep understanding of parallel and distributed systems
• Experience designing production software for motion planning, kinematics, and control
• Experience with RESTful interfaces, gRPC, and distributed systems
• Strong software architecture, design patterns, and high-quality code
• Ability to lead ambiguous technical problems end-to-end
• Proven ability to influence teams and mentor engineers

Responsibilities

• Own software architecture and long-term roadmap for robotic manipulation on the Scoop program
• Develop, deploy, and support advanced manipulation software in production environments
• Design high-performance modules for motion planning, kinematics, and coordination
• Set directions for manipulation systems and lead complex projects end-to-end
• Evolve simulation environments, tests, and hardware-in-the-loop workflows
• Diagnose and resolve complex issues across software and hardware
• Collaborate with hardware, controls, perception, product, and systems teams
• Lead design reviews, code reviews, and documentation of tradeoffs
• Raise engineering standards for reliability, observability, and maintainability
• Mentor senior and junior engineers and communicate strategy clearly
