Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to develop software for advanced robotic platforms. This role involves driving technical direction in the Kinesis ecosystem and requires expertise in C++ and hands-on experience with robotic systems.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in a relevant field and over 12 years of experience. Additional benefits include medical and retirement plans. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or have a permanent resident status.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of relevant experience required.
• Self‑directed engineer who takes ownership.
• Ability to engage directly with technical and non‑technical customers.

Responsibilities

• Conduct software development for navigation and autonomy systems.
• Drive architectural decisions for the Kinesis ecosystem.
• Design, implement, and integrate systems in C++ and Kotlin.
• Perform hands-on testing with robots.
• Serve as technical lead for customer programs.

Skills

Fluency in modern C++

Software architecture

Modular system design

Hands-on knowledge of CMake

Experience with mechatronic systems

Computer networking knowledge

Knowledge of safety critical software

Education
