Job summary

AeroVironment, based in California, is seeking a Software Engineer to develop software that controls robotic platforms for AV and partner vehicles. You’ll help evolve Kinesis, our flagship software ecosystem, enabling coordinated control across diverse robots.

You will own hands-on hardware work, design robust C++ code, and collaborate across teams to deliver safe, reliable systems with a focus on clear documentation and timely execution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 5+ years of relevant experience
• Strong fluency in modern C++, modular system design
• Experience evaluating design tradeoffs and translating to system requirements
• Hands-on knowledge of build systems (CMake)
• Experience with mechatronic or hardware-integrated software
• Knowledge of computer networking topologies and protocols
• Self-directed engineer who brings structure to complex systems
• Ability to engage with technical and non-technical customers
• Willing to travel locally (Occasionally)
• Ability to obtain US DoD Secret clearance if required

Responsibilities

• Develop software for navigation, autonomy, cooperative behaviors, and mission systems
• Design, implement, and integrate systems in C++ and Kotlin
• Develop cross-platform apps for Android, Linux, and Windows to control robotic platforms
• Design SDK interfaces for internal and external integration
• Perform hands-on field testing with robots
• Deliver work on time according to schedule & budget
• Support algorithm design from software requirements
• Collaborate with multiple software teams to reuse code
• Mentor less experienced engineers
• Occasional travel for customer or testing events
