Job summary

Simbe Robotics seeks a Principal or Staff Robotics Perception Engineer to bridge perception models and robot software for Tally robots deployed in real stores. You will own perception pipelines, enable reliable navigation and localization, and push real-time AI on embedded hardware.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in robotic perception, computer vision, ML, autonomous systems, or related robotics work.
• Proficiency in Python and C++ in Linux environments.
• Hands-on experience with ROS and/or ROS2, sensor pipelines, and deployed robotics systems.
• Experience with model training and inference tools such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX, TensorRT, CUDA.
• Strong understanding of object detection, segmentation, depth estimation, sensor fusion, calibration, and SLAM.
• Experience deploying real-time AI models on embedded systems, edge GPUs, or constrained hardware.

Responsibilities

• Own production perception pipelines: design, evaluate, integrate, and optimize perception systems used by Tally robots (detection, segmentation, depth, tracking, fusion, localization, calibration).
• Bridge CV and robot autonomy by partnering with CV, Robotics Software, Product, and Field teams to integrate models into robot codebase and improve navigation and reliability.
• Improve real-time performance by profiling and optimizing neural networks on current and next-gen hardware using Python, C++, ONNX, TensorRT, CUDA, and embedded workflows.
• Advance robot perception R&D by exploring visual SLAM, visual odometry, depth estimation, multi-modal perception, and simulation for practical improvements.
• Develop system benchmarks connecting model quality to robot outcomes (latency, compute, uptime, navigation success, localization robustness, false positives/negatives, customer-facing accuracy).
• Debug field failures end-to-end using logs, robot data, imagery, maps, telemetry, and model outputs to diagnose perception and autonomy issues in production stores.
• Shape technical direction through leadership, code reviews, architecture guidance, and mentorship at the AI/robotics intersection.
