Job summary

1X is seeking a senior/Staff AI/behavior engineer to design scalable behavior architectures for home robots. You will enable robots to reason, decide, and act autonomously in real homes, balancing cloud and edge processing, with focus on safety and reliability.

You will work with the Behavior team to integrate across Core, World Model, Apps, and Motion teams, delivering robust AI that feels natural. This role demands deep C++ expertise and robotics familiarity in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6+ years developing gameplay systems, conversational AI, NPC behaviors, or system architecture (Senior) or 10+ years (Staff).
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Game Development, Robotics, AI, or related field.
• Strong proficiency in C++, system programming, and OO design.
• Experience with Unreal Engine, Unity, proprietary game engines, or large-scale simulation environments.

Responsibilities

• Design scalable behavior architectures enabling robots to autonomously perform complex tasks.
• Build decision-making frameworks using behavior trees, FSMs, or similar AI architectures.
• Partner with Core, World Model, Apps, and Motion teams to integrate behavior systems into real-world robot operation.
• Improve realism, robustness, and adaptability of robot behaviors while establishing engineering best practices.
