Job summary

Intuitive Surgical in Sunnyvale is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to join the Ion endoluminal project team. You will span embedded, algorithm, and GUI software layers to advance the Ion robotic platform for minimally invasive biopsy applications.

The role emphasizes rapid prototyping, independent ownership, and collaboration with product, clinical, and engineering teams in a fast-paced R&D environment.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience developing SW in relevant areas.
• Experience writing software for physical, electro-mechanical or robotic systems, deployed on embedded Linux or QNX.
• Demonstrated ability to systematically troubleshoot and debug complex systems
• High levels of independence and technical ownership
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Experience with software development tools such as git and jira
• Demonstrated success working as a software generalist across multiple layers of a system, from embedded real-time applications to GUI design
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, exploratory development environment with evolving requirements

Responsibilities

• Collaborate effectively with a small, cross-functional group to rapidly evaluate new ideas.
• Prototype new software features and algorithms with fidelity for quick iteration.
• Contribute across embedded, algorithm, and GUI software layers.
• Develop proof-of-concept tools, workflows, and application features for device, system, and user-facing experiences.
• Troubleshoot and debug complex, multidisciplinary systems involving software, hardware, and electro-mechanical interactions.
• Take strong technical ownership of projects and drive work forward independently in a research setting
