Job summary

Intuitive is seeking a Senior Robotic Algorithm and Controls Engineer to join the Advanced Product Development team onsite in Sunnyvale. You will design, analyze, and implement robotic control algorithms for the da Vinci family, advancing teleoperation, motion control, and safety features.

The role requires a strong background in servo control, embedded C/C++, and MATLAB/Python, with experience integrating hardware and software across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Minimum MS degree in CS, ME, EE, or similar with 4-5+ years of industrial experience or PhD with 1-3+ years of experience.
• Experience designing and implementing servo control systems.
• Strong embedded development skills including C and modern C++.
• MATLAB and Python programming, plus hardware and software integration skills.
• Detail-oriented with ability to drive a solution to completion and manage risk.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to development of surgical robotic systems through analysis and design.
• Apply control theory to design and verify mechatronic and tele-robotic systems.
• Develop and implement motion control and safety algorithms with documentation.
• Integrate prototype hardware with existing systems and track performance.
• Collaborate across electrical, mechanical, software, and safety teams.
