Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a heavy equipment operator to join the Hot Crew and maintain roadways using backhoe, front end loader, road patcher, and other equipment. You will support the foreman in safe work practices, perform flagging, PPE, and inspections, and be prepared for extended shifts during weather events.

Required is at least one year of related experience, a valid driver's license, and the goal to obtain a Class A CDL within six months.

Qualifications

• One year related work experience or approved equivalent.
• Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license; need to obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement.
• Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lbs and working in varied outdoor conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment on the Hot Crew to perform road maintenance.
• Supports foreman in daily safe work practices, including flagging, PPE, vehicle safety, CDL inspections, hazardous materials, and waste handling.
• Operates and maintains equipment such as forklift and skid steer loader for roadway maintenance.
• Assists with inclement weather operations and may work extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
