Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a skilled heavy equipment operator to join the ROW Clearing Crew and maintain highways using equipment such as motor graders, loaders, and slope mowers.

You will perform drainage, paving, and shoulder repairs, and manage traffic controls in work zones. A valid Class A CDL is required within six months, along with one year of related experience or equivalent.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment on the ROW Clearing Crew.
• Perform highway maintenance tasks such as drainage, pothole patching, base repairs, paving, and related duties.
• Control traffic in work zones and flag traffic for safety.
• Assist in emergencies and after-hours on-call work.
