Job summary

Volkert seeks a Senior Roadway Engineer for the Mid Atlantic Region, based in Springfield, VA. The role leads roadway design efforts, coordinates with subconsultants, and ensures schedules and budgets align with client expectations.

The ideal candidate brings 8–15+ years of roadway design experience, strong communication skills, and familiarity with DOT standards. PE is preferred; VOLEV experience is a plus. This on-site position includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
• 8–15+ years relevant experience in roadway design.
• Proven skills in meeting DOT expectations, schedules, and budgets.
• Strong written and communication skills.
• PE preferred.
• Experienced in DOT design methods, plan preparation, standards, and specifications.

Job Overview

We are currently searching for an experienced Senior Roadway Engineer to support our Mid Atlantic Region located in Springfield, VA.

Responsibilities

• Leading or assisting in the development of project designs and directing engineers and designers to successfully execute and deliver project work, while implementing client-focused strategies
• Developing and checking engineering estimates, construction specifications, and coordinating with subconsultants
• Applying established and well-defined engineering techniques, procedures, policies, or standards
• Preparing reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and designs for projects
• Working in a team environment to deliver a range of transportation and civil design projects and participating in business development efforts and meetings with clients
• Participating in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies; coordinating work to ensure best practices with all team members
• Identifying and analyzing problems using reasoning to arrive at conclusions
• Applying standard practices and techniques to accomplish work assignments
• Understanding and adhering to assigned phase and task schedules and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of the project
• Adhering to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual

Requirements

• Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment
• Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
