Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is seeking an Engineer III to join the Roadway Design Unit in Wake County. You will serve as a senior design engineer, developing roadway design plans and estimates with CADD tools, and ensuring compliance with standards throughout project delivery.

You will lead design activities, review partner designs, and guide less experienced engineers, while coordinating with internal divisions to meet project schedules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution with four years of progressively responsible experience.
• Professional licensure as a professional engineer may be required by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
• Experience applying roadway design principles, standards, and project development in practice.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an advanced level and senior design engineer in the Design Development and Support Group.
• Use CADD software to develop roadway design plans and construction estimates throughout project delivery.
• Assist the team lead with scope of work and negotiate workday estimates for engineering contracts.
• Perform QA/QC of roadway designs to ensure conformance with NCDOT standards.
• Participate in status meetings and provide guidance on designs produced by external firms.
• Direct the work of Engineer I and II and provide training to junior staff.
