Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an on-site Field Inspector to join our Transportation CEI team across multiple project locations. The role involves inspecting roadway, bridge, drainage, erosion control, and maintenance/traffic activities to ensure compliance with plans, specs, and contract provisions.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English.
• Intermediate knowledge of mathematical functions including geometry and trigonometry.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new applications and programs.
• Advanced knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
• Ability to read, understand, interpret and explain construction plans and drawings, contract provisions, and specifications.
• Ability to lead and instruct more junior inspectors.

Responsibilities

• Performing both complex and routine inspections of construction to evaluate if appropriate materials and processes are used and that work conforms to plans and specs.
• Uses higher grade equipment and performs complex calculations for inspections.
• Works under supervision depending on demonstrated knowledge for the assignment.
• Reviewing drawings to prepare for construction inspection.
• Documenting and communicating inspection results to the supervisor.
